Monkey Mia

Departing for Kalbarri I had been told there was a festival in town and most places where fully booked. So when I arrived in town I got a place in the Kalbarri Anchorage Caravanpark ($30 a night) and enjoyed a few laps in the pool. Woke up the next morning with it pooring rain on all my stuff outside..

To my great regret I had to pass on a visit to the Kalbarri national park.

Stopped at a free overnight area next to the highway. I was happy to welcome the sun back the next day.

I read about Monkey Mia before this trip and was really looking forward to seeing dolphins, dugons and turtles.

Booked a trip on the Shotover a catamaran, cost me only $80 for 3hrs of spotting dolphins, dugons and turtles + a free sunset trip. The skipper is a Dutch man named Harvey Raven who is a offshore yachtmaster and used to be a succesful catamaran racer. 

Monkey Mia is located on Shark's Bay, and there is a NO free camping policy on Shark Bay...

After this beautiful romantic..(sic)... freezing trip, I raced down to Denham to refuel before heading out, only to arrive 20 mins after closing time... 

So with almost no fuel and refusing to pay way tooo much for a spot in a caravanpark for only 16hrs I decided to find a quite spot just out of town...

Crawled between all the stuff in the back and went to sleep.

See this is a lesson for all who break the law... If you look dumb enough you get away with a LOT.

Got woken up by a knock on the window from a ranger, my quite spot was just a 100m from a sign saying a fine of 200$ would be given for illegal camping...

But this innocent face saved my bacon once again... Safe to say I will not tempt my luck again. 

Next stop Carnavon. The town welcomed me with its "Carnavon, natures playground" sign.

Had to top up my watersupplies, sent an email to work with a signed letter requesting 2 months extra timecredit and get me some snorkeling gear cause the Ningaloo reef was coming closer.

Itinerary

My choices

I am flying Emirates airlines, departing in London Heathrow on the 1st of September at 21h30. Stopping over in Dubai for 3 hours before heading to my destination Perth. I will arrive in Perth on  the 3rd of September at 0:55.

I will return to Belgium departing the 29th of December at 15:10, same airline same again via Dubai and arriving in London Heathrow the 30h of December at 07:10.

I paid €867 for these tickets. Found them on Budgetair about 4 month prior to departure.


I found a one way ticket from Brussels airport to London Heathrow on Brussels Airlines for €54 booked 2 months prior to departure.  

I will book my ticket from London to Brussels on my way back about two months before leaving Australia. This because it is possible  the itinerary of my flight back from Perth might change.


  

Introduction

In November 2013 I traveled to Australia for the first time. I flew to Adelaide, picked up a campervan I hired from Apollocars and spent 3 weeks driving to Brisbane.

When I came back home it didn't take long for me to feel lost and depressed. I suddenly dawned on me I needed to go back, and this time for a longer time and to another part of AU, WA!

Luckily here in Belgium we have the opportunity to take time of work, you don't get wages but you do get  an amount from the state because you temporarily make place for someone else to be employed.

So I decided to take 1 month holiday leave and 3 months unpaid leave, starting 1 September 2014 and finishing on the 31st of December 2014.

Starting point this time will be Perth.
